After two-decades in North White Plains, the global leader in lenticular printing acquired and now occupies the former Brooklyn Botanical Gardens (BBG) research facility set on the 208-acre Kitchawan Preserve in Ossining, NY. “Our company is growing. We needed more space and wanted a beautiful setting to inspire the work we do and the creative people and companies we serve,” said Steven Spiro, founder, and CEO of Tracer Imaging, LLC.
Tracer has its roots in Westchester County and is delighted to have found a location that enables it to enjoy the natural beauty of the Preserve set between a portion of the Croton Dam and the 2,000-acre Teatown Lake Reservation, custodian of the Preserve. It was a vision that Spiro had early on, but Tracer met with some local skepticism at first. Coincidently, each organization had a long-lasting relationship with Evan Molho at Create & Associates, the creative agency located in Armonk, NY, who introduced Spiro to Kevin Carter (executive director, Teatown) and later to David Swope (founding benefactor of Teatown). “When we met Steven and the Tracer team and learned about their business, their commitment to the environment, and what good people they are, we couldn’t have been happier,” said Carter. The relationship has since grown, and Tracer and Teatown have developed a cooperating relationship that reaches beyond stewardship of the Preserve and into the boardroom.
The building was originally built by BBG to be flooded with light throughout the year. “We fell in in love with the building right away,” said Spiro. While the exterior and footprint remain the same, the space needed to be upgraded and transformed for Tracer’s use. To make that happen, Tracer hired Robert Siegel Architects of Katonah, NY. “We loved Robert’s work and knew that with his experience and commitment to the region, his was the best firm for the job.” “The building had fantastic bones,” said Siegel. “It’s still basically a laboratory, but where it once served horticultural science, it’s now the home of a fantastically innovative product development company that happens to focus on personalized printing products.”
The spaces inside were planned to enable the growing company to remain agile and be progressive, while maintaining an approachable and confident vibe. The first level contains the design, art production, executive office, and team collaboration spaces. The lower level is a vast and state-of-the-art printing and making space—also home to some of Tracer’s most prized and proprietary technology.
Tracer’s new residence in Ossining is many things including innovation laboratory, nature preserve, creative studio, and corporate showplace. Most of all, it is the home of a company at the forefront of lenticular technology that so advanced, the company now refers to it as Motion Graphics.
